Moon phase illumination geometry
Lunar phase Sun-Earth-Moon geometry এবং Earth থেকে দৃশ্যমান illuminated lunar hemisphere-এর fraction অনুসরণ করে। Complete phase cycle, synodic month, প্রায় 29.53 days। এটি প্রায় 27.32 day sidereal month-এর মতো নয়, যা distant star-এর relative orbital period। Cycle সাধারণত আটটি main stage দিয়ে বর্ণনা করা হয়: new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter এবং waning crescent। Illumination continuously বদলায় বলে boundary conventional।
Illumination, distance ও local time ভিন্ন quantity
Illuminated fraction phase বর্ণনা করে, distance elliptical orbit-এ position বর্ণনা করে, আর horizon-এর ওপর altitude observer location ও time-এর ওপর নির্ভর করে। Perigee বা apogee phase define করে না। Moonrise, moonset ও culmination-ও একটি phase-এর জন্য fixed নয়, তাই GeoLira illumination percentage থেকে local astronomical context আলাদাভাবে calculate করে। New moon থেকে full moon পর্যন্ত illuminated fraction wax করে, আর full moon থেকে next new moon পর্যন্ত wane করে। First ও last quarter মানে disk-এর one quarter illuminated নয়। Earth থেকে আমরা roughly half disk দেখি, আর quarter cycle-এর position বোঝায়। একই phase Earth জুড়ে একই সময়ে ঘটে, কিন্তু hemisphere, latitude ও observing time অনুযায়ী bright portion horizon-এর relative orientation-এ ভিন্ন হয়।
প্রতি মাসে eclipse কেন হয় না
Moon-এর orbit Sun-এর চারপাশে Earth-এর orbital plane-এর তুলনায় প্রায় 5 degrees inclined। তাই অধিকাংশ new বা full moon eclipse-এর জন্য দরকার exact alignment-এর ওপর বা নিচ দিয়ে যায়। Eclipse-এর জন্য Moon-কে orbital node-এর কাছেও থাকতে হয়। Lunar phase astronomical calculation এবং GeoLira-এ symbolic interpretation থেকে আলাদা থাকে। Phase একা moonrise/moonset time, horizon-এর ওপর altitude, Earth থেকে distance বা local weather-এর মাধ্যমে visibility নির্ধারণ করে না। এগুলোর জন্য separate time- ও location-based calculation দরকার।
