Current state is a set of sourced signals, not one number
Today combines the most important current indicators from the canonical layer: Schumann activity, Kp, IMF Bz, solar wind, X-ray and Earth Pulse when available. Each card retains its own metric, unit, source and observation time. The interface does not turn these different quantities into one physical measurement or recalculate values already verified by the backend.
Freshness and quality are part of the value
A current number is meaningful only with its quality state and data age. A record may be GOOD, DEGRADED, STALE or unavailable according to the source contract. Missing current data are not rendered as zero. Providers and events have different publication cadences, so two cards on the same page may legitimately have different last-valid observation times.
Trend provides context, not prediction
Sparklines and comparison with an earlier public snapshot help show the direction of a short-term change. They are historical context, not a forecast. Important signals link to specialized views where the user can inspect a longer range, source, unit and interpretation boundary before drawing conclusions.
