ELF and Measurement Methodology

How GeoLira treats ELF acquisition, calibration, spectral processing, station quality and provenance. A plotted peak is not accepted as a production measurement unless the station and processing chain satisfy the declared quality contract.

How GeoLira treats ELF acquisition, calibration, spectral processing, station quality and provenance. A plotted peak is not accepted as a production measurement unless the station and processing chain satisfy the declared quality contract.

From antenna to canonical record

A defensible ELF measurement starts with a known station, input chain, sampling rate, clock and calibration. Raw waveform data should retain station identity and acquisition metadata. Known artifacts may then be handled before power spectra and resonance parameters are estimated. GeoLira does not treat an image of a third-party chart as equivalent to a calibrated raw measurement stream.

How resonance parameters are estimated

Spectral analysis estimates peak frequency, calibrated amplitude or spectral density, linewidth and Q as separate quantities. The result must preserve unit, time interval, quality and provenance. Frequency and linewidth use Hz, Q is dimensionless, and physical amplitude requires a real calibration of the measurement chain rather than brightness or color from a spectrogram.

Quality control and the current GeoLira boundary

A production station needs heartbeat monitoring, range checks, bad-state detection and a documented noise baseline. A failed-quality or hard-stale record cannot be presented as a current measurement. Current Schumann Near Live is explicitly an external relative-activity analysis. Physical F1-F4, amplitude, linewidth and Q remain fail-closed until a suitable first-party source has been deployed, calibrated and certified.
